The Challenge
The biggest challenge lay in crafting a believable, engaging narrative that would speak to families and reflect the school’s diverse offering without feeling staged or forced. The school wanted a storyline that would feel genuine, warm, and inspiring - showing real students and real spaces, rather than scripted scenes.
The chosen concept - following the journey of a young girl from her very first day at Westbourne School through to her GCSE results day - needed to feel seamless. This required thoughtful planning to ensure continuity in the student’s “character” as she appeared to grow up on screen. It was equally important to feature key departments central to the Westbourne experience, including Art, Drama, Sports, and Music, so that prospective parents could see the breadth of opportunities available to their child.
Another significant consideration was practical: the shoot would involve real pupils, teachers, and learning spaces, so coordinating filming to avoid disrupting lessons or normal school life was vital.

What We Did
To bring the story to life convincingly, our video production team worked closely with Westbourne’s staff to cast students who could collectively represent the same girl at different ages. We carefully chose several students of similar appearance, ensuring that as the ‘main character’ progressed through school, the change felt natural and believable to the audience.
Simple visual tricks were used to reinforce this continuity. For example, we advised our young actresses to sweep their hair behind their ears as a character trait for key scenes - a small but effective touch that maintained a subtle thread of consistency as viewers followed the girl’s journey from the classroom to sports fields and finally to her GCSE results day.
Collaboration was key. We ran a full storyboard workshop with Westbourne’s senior team to map out each scene and ensure the video would touch on the school’s key strengths. We planned how best to weave in glimpses of the Art department, lively Drama productions, active Sports sessions, and inspiring Music classes - all captured naturally with real students in their learning environments.
With careful scheduling, we filmed across multiple days to get authentic footage without causing disruption. The whole school community got involved, with students and teachers alike providing natural performances that brought warmth and credibility to the final edit.
The video was then edited with a focus on pacing and emotion, ensuring the narrative felt uplifting and honest, ending with the powerful moment of the student celebrating her GCSE success - a milestone that embodies the school’s commitment to helping each child reach their full potential.

The Result
The promotional video was an immediate success. Within its first week online, it attracted over 2,500 views, resonating strongly with both current families and prospective parents discovering the school for the first time.
Feedback highlighted how the emotive, relatable storytelling perfectly captured Westbourne’s ethos of care and achievement. By showcasing real students and real moments, the video illustrated what makes Westbourne School special - not just its facilities, but its commitment to guiding every student through a successful, happy journey from day one to exam success.
The film played a key role in sparking new interest in the school, leading to an increase in enquiries from families seeking a place for their child.
