The Challenge

At the heart of the challenge was a cumbersome booking process. The previous system didn’t account for the variety of use cases Adventure Expeditions needed to support, from schools booking group trips with dozens of participants to individual adventurers signing up for single-day events. The user experience was inconsistent and inflexible, leading to increased admin time, booking errors, and customer frustration.

Loading speeds were also an issue. Slow performance and confusing navigation added to the barriers faced by potential customers. Internally, managing course data, consent forms, and customer communication had become time-consuming and prone to error due to the system’s limitations.

The goal was clear: create a website that could adapt to different user journeys, simplify administration, and ultimately increase course bookings.

What We Did

Hydra Creative worked closely with the Adventure Expeditions team to fully understand the unique requirements of their business. We designed and developed a completely bespoke website that focused on intuitive navigation, flexible booking flows, and robust data capture, all without compromising speed or user experience.

We began by addressing the structural issues. A new homepage filtering system was introduced to help visitors find the most relevant courses quickly, while a fixed navigation menu ensured a consistent experience across all devices.

The booking process was reengineered from the ground up. We developed functionality that allows different consent forms to be assigned to specific courses, ensuring that the right information is captured from each participant — without overwhelming users with irrelevant fields. Returning customers booking multiple courses now benefit from a streamlined checkout, reducing unnecessary duplication and improving conversion rates.

A tagging system and visual filters were introduced to give customers more clarity and control. Labels such as "guaranteed to run" or "two spaces left" help create urgency and drive conversions, while showcasing previous courses supports credibility and improves search engine performance. Integration with Google Maps allows users to explore courses by location, increasing relevance and accessibility.

For school and business bookings, we developed features that allow administrators to create shared booking links for participants. This empowers users to fill in their own details securely, saving time for both staff and customers while improving data accuracy.

Ongoing Support and Development

Since the successful launch of the new website, Hydra Creative has continued to work with Adventure Expeditions under an ongoing support and development contract. This partnership ensures that the platform remains robust, up-to-date, and responsive to changing business needs.

One of the most exciting developments under this ongoing work has been the creation of a pathway-based consent form system, a sophisticated feature that enables a more personalised and efficient data capture process. The new system uses conditional logic to tailor the questions presented to users based on their previous answers.

This system has proven especially valuable for school groups, where large cohorts of varied participants often require different consents and permissions. The smart, adaptive logic built into the pathway system ensures that everyone receives the appropriate forms, with the correct medical information, reducing back-and-forth with staff and speeding up the administration process.

In addition to new feature development, our team provides technical maintenance, hosting support, and performance monitoring, ensuring the site remains secure, fast, and reliable. We also work closely with the Adventure Expeditions team to implement content updates and consult on ways to further optimise the platform.

THE RESULT

Since launching, the redeveloped Adventure Expeditions website has delivered measurable results. Feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the simplified checkout experience and improved course visibility. The site is now significantly faster, more modern, and more accessible, creating a smooth digital journey from browsing to booking.

Internally, staff have reported substantial time savings, particularly in managing bookings, consent forms, and customer data. The intelligent, scalable architecture now supports a wide range of booking scenarios, from individuals to large groups, all while reducing the operational burden.

Ongoing development work continues to add value, with the pathway consent system standing out as a particularly impactful enhancement. Together, these changes have positioned Adventure Expeditions to grow their offering with confidence, knowing their digital infrastructure is fit for purpose and ready to scale.
